on Registration, Foreign Assembler Information
Collections. U.S. Customs
and Border Protection is extending to July 17 the comment period on the
proposed extension without change of forms 4455 and 4457, Certificate of
Registration. This certificate is used to expedite duty-free or reduced
duty entry for foreign-made personal articles that are taken abroad, which
are dutiable each time they are brought into the U.S. unless there is
acceptable proof of prior possession. It is also used for the
registration, examination and supervised lading of commercial shipments of
articles exported for repair, alteration, processing, etc., that will
subsequently be returned to the U.S. either free of duty or at a reduced
rate.
In addition, CBP is seeking comments by Aug. 17 on the
proposed extension of the Foreign Assembler’s Declaration (with
Endorsement by Importer), which is used to substantiate a claim for
duty-free treatment of U.S.-fabricated components sent abroad for assembly
and subsequently returned to the U.S. Source
